Three Chechen guerillas to be sent from Georgia to Russia by plane

TBILISI. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will send a plane to Tbilisi before the end of this week to extradite three out of 13 Chechen guerillas who were detained with arms on the Georgian- Russian border in August.

Officials of Georgian law-enforcement agencies told reporters on Friday that Georgy Tsurtsumiya, official of the Russian prosecutor general's office, arrived in Georgia late on Thursday. Tsurtsumiya is tasked to solve the problem with the extradition.

The Georgian prosecutor general's office gave its consent to the extradition in late November. The Matatsmino-Krtsanisi district court of Tbilisi upheld the prosecutors' decision on Thursday. However the Chechens have 10 days to appeal the ruling with the Georgian Supreme Court.

Sources in Georgian law-enforcement agencies said that the Russian party insists on quick extradition of guerillas without waiting for the Supreme Court's decision.

Five guerillas were already handed to Russia in October. Two more ethnic Chechens, who are citizens of Georgia, will be tried in their home country. There is still no decision on the fate of the remaining three rebels.
