Russian Land Forces to be taught how to combat terrorism

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Land Forces command will pay special attention to application of its units in actions against armed terrorists in 2003, Land Forces Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Nikolai Kormiltsev said on Friday.

"Taking into account new challenges and threats of international terrorism, the Land Forces will have to learn in 2003 how to act in emergency situations using non-standard approaches and experience of local wars and regional armed conflicts," Kormiltsev told reporters.

For this purpose, the troops have been given new training patterns dealing with armed combat with international terrorism. Programs of higher military educational establishments have been changed, he said.

"Troops will act in emergency situations using the experience of the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus," Kormiltsev said.
