Top U.S. military official to arrive in Moscow on Monday

MOSCOW. Dec 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard Myers will arrive on a working visit to Moscow on Monday.

He is scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov on Tuesday and with Chief of Staff Anatoly Kvashnin on Wednesday, a source in the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Myers and his Russian counterparts are expected to discuss interaction in combating international terrorism, the situation in Afghanistan, missile defense issues, and prospects for developing cooperation between Russia and NATO in light of the recent decision on the alliance's enlargement.

No documents are planned for signing at the talks in Moscow, the source said.

Myers will visit the Kubinka air force garrison in the Moscow region on Tuesday to study the aircraft demonstration center. He will make a flight on the SU-27UB Flanker fighter that is to be piloted by Major General Alexander Kharchevsky, head of the Lipetsk aviation center.

The U.S. general will visit the missile attack early warning station in Solnechnogorsk, also in the Moscow region, on Wednesday.

Myers is to leave Moscow on Thursday.
