Russian-U.S. arms reduction treaty will most likely be ratified - lawmaker

MOSCOW. Dec 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian State Duma will most likely ratify the Russian-U.S. Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty, Nikolai Bezborodov, deputy head of the State Duma's defense committee, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"This is not exactly what Russia needs. But this is the best option at present after the United States pulled out of the 1972 ABM Treaty," he said.

"The defense and international affairs committees together with the Foreign and Defense Ministries' representatives already October. We agreed that after the treaty is submitted for ratification the issue will be analyzed more closely. The international affairs, defense, and security committees will consider the military-political aspect, and the defense and industry committees will consider the military-technical aspect," Bezborodov recalled.

"Sessions of the committees involving invited representatives of the executive power are expected to start already next week," the lawmaker said.
