New aircraft engines by Motor Sich offered at Siberian air show

MOSCOW. Dec 10 (Interfax-AVN) - New aircraft engines designed by the Motor Sich company located in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia were offered and highly appreciated at the Siberian International Air Show 2002 that ended in Krasnoyarsk Monday, a spokesman for of the Motor Sich Moscow office told Interfax- Military News Agency Tuesday.

"Siberian airlines got acquainted with VK-1500 and VK-2500 aircraft engines designed jointly by the Klimov Plant and Motor Sich JSO," the spokesman said..

According to him, the VK-1500 turboprop is intended for the AN-38, AN-3 Colt, and BE-132MK local airliners. The engine has a take-off power of 1,500hp, it has successfully passed tests and is getting ready for certification.

"The VK-1500VM turboshaft version was launched on November 7, 2002. The engine is intended to substitute for the TV2-117 in MI-8 Hip helicopters, and another version, VK-1500VK, can be fitted in KA-60 and KA-62 helicopters," the spokesman said.

The other model presented at the show, the VK-2500 with a take-off power of 2,400hp (2,700hp in the afterburn mode), is intended for Russian MI and KA helicopters, in particular, MI-24M and MI-17V Hind.

Special interest at the air show was aroused by information on the new TVZ-117VMA-SBM1 turboprop engine designed the Motor Sich together with the Klimov Plant and Progress Design Bureau, also in Zaporizhzhia. The certified engine with a take-off power of 2,500hp is intended for the AN-140 local airliner. It is reliable and economic in low-temperature environment.

"An AN-74TK-200 plane of the Motor Sich Airlines with D-36 engines successfully performed five flights to the North Pole in April 2002, with a temporary airfield on a drifting ice floe," the spokesman said.

The D-36 has modifications: D-36 series 4A for the AN-74TK- 300 that made its maiden flight on April 20, 2002, and D-36 series 5AF for the AN-148 passenger plane.

According to the spokesman, the quality system of the company corresponds to ISO-9001, the certificate accredited in the U.S., Britain, and Germany.

Motor Sich aircraft engines (55 models and modifications) are operated in 106 countries across the globe.

Motor Sich also provides repairs of earlier produced engines using plasma, gas-plasma, and detonation spraying, as well as electron-beam welding.
