One policeman killed, another wounded in guerilla attack in Grozny

GROZNY. Dec 24 (Interfax-AVN) - An elite policeman was killed while another one was heavily wounded in a guerilla attack at the Smolensk region's elite police temporary stationing point overnight to Tuesday.

"Rebels opened fire at the policemen location in the Leninsky district of Grozny at about 11:00 p.m. Moscow time (2000 GMT) on Monday. The attack was carried out from under-barrel grenade launchers. Two policemen were wounded and one of them died of wounds," a source in the police department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency.

At about 9:10 p.m. Moscow time (1810 GMT) guerillas attacked a checkpoint with law-enforcers from the Altai territory.

The policemen fired back and a guerilla was destroyed according to preliminary data.
