SOp police forces say they need modern armor, night vision goggles

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Special operations police forces are to be additionally equipped by modern armor and night vision goggles, most of 500 polled policemen answered.

The poll was carried out by the All-Russian Interior Ministry Research Institute; those polled represented 17 Russian regions, a source in the Interior Ministry staff told Interfax- Military News Agency Tuesday.

According to the source, 83 percent of those polled think that they need new vehicles, for example, light open APCs, armored humvees, etc.

In addition, 69 percent say the communication means now in the inventory do not ensure reliable communication.

Almost 64 percent think that there is no full cooperation between the police, Interior Ministry troops, state security, and the military.

Only 48 percent are satisfied with medical support in their units. Almost the same percentage indicated shortage in medicine.
