Chechen warlord's body may be handed over to relative in three years

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax-AVN) - The body of Chechen terrorist Salman Raduyev, buried in Solikamsk where he had been serving life imprisonment, may be handed over to his relatives no earlier than in three years, Vladimir Logachev, a spokesman for the Justice Ministry's Department for the Execution of Punishments, told Interfax on Wednesday.

He said relatives had asked the authorities to be allowed to re-bury Raduyev's body in Chechnya. However, in accordance with the law and sanitary regulations, a deceased prisoner must be buried within three days if his relatives do not immediately request his handover.

"Raduyev's relatives were instantly informed about his death, but no request was received from them. Therefore, he was buried in a municipal cemetery, in a special area for deceased prisoners," Logachev said.
