TBILISI. Dec 25 (Interfax-AVN) - A signal battalion of the Russian troops group in the Trans-Caucasus has completed relocation from Georgia to the 102nd military base in the Armenian town of Gyumri.
"The relocation of the separate signal battalion, a repairing shop for communication assets and a state courier service station having a total of 100 pieces of hardware ended on Wednesday," chief of a department in the group's headquarters Colonel Vladimir Kuparadze told Interfax-Military News Agency.
He said that the relocation that started on December 20 in accordance with Russian-Georgian agreements happened without incidents. Convoys of the group were escorted by officials of the Georgian Defense and Interior Ministries until they reached the border.
"The relocated units are reassigned to the 102nd base's command," Kuparadze said.
Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev said in Tbilisi earlier that Russia is turning Armenia into "an explosive arsenal" by relocating its units there.
Chief of the Russian Defense Ministry main department for international military cooperation Anatoly Mazurkevich told Interfax-AVN that Russia is only relocating engineering assets such as graders, earthmovers and communication means to Armenia, that is why all statements that the move might damage security in the area are groundless.
