U.S. to train four Georgian border guard platoons

TBILISI. Dec 25 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. instructors will train four Georgian border guard platoons before the end of next year as part of the Train and Equip program, a senior Georgian official said on Wednesday.

"Training for the first platoon has been completed, and the border guards show a high standard of training," Colonel Kornely Salia, chief of staff of the State Border Guard Department told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The training of the second platoon will start simultaneously with the training of the Sachkheri mountain rifle battalion by U.S. instructors, he said.

According to Salia, the border guard platoons would form a reserve for the most difficult sections of the border.

"In the future, the border guards will act as instructors for raw recruits," he added.
