MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and Iran intend to continue working together in nuclear energy.
This statement is included in a protocol signed by Russian and Iranian delegations in conclusion of Russian Minister of Atomic Energy Alexander Rumyantsev's working trip to Iran on Wednesday.
The protocol also sets the dates on which the first power unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant will be completed. It also says that Russia will conduct a technological study as to the possibility of building the second nuclear power unit in Bushehr, a high-ranking official from the Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy told Interfax.
Specifically, the protocol points to the need to deliver 'fresh' nuclear fuel from Russia to carry out launching procedures at the first power unit of the Bushehr plant.
At a press conference summarizing the results of his visit to Iran, Rumyantsev said that "the parties have no disagreements."
Commenting on Russia's possible involvement in Iran's nuclear program, the minister said, "Russia is extremely interested in discussing such a project."
The Iranian nuclear program, which was recently announced at an IAEA session, envisions building and putting 6,000 MWt of nuclear power capacities into operation.
