Autumn draft rounded up in Leningrad military district

ST.PETERSBURG. Dec 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Military commissioners of the Leningrad military district have completed the sending of this year's conscripts to military units, Colonel Sergei Talanov, head of the draft section in the mobilization department of the district headquarters, said on Monday.

"The mission assigned by the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has been accomplished in full," Talanov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Organization of the conscripts' departure was the best in the military commissioner's offices of the Leningrad and Vologda regions and the Republic of Komi. The offices are headed by Major Generals Viktor Skokov, Valery Varshavsky and Vener Nasyrov respectively.

Results of the autumn draft are being analyzed, Talanov said. Special attention is given to recruitment of personnel for special-purpose units, the Airborne Troops, the Navy, the Strategic Missile Forces, training units and other structures.

"The Armed Forces and other troops are gradually losing possibilities to choose among conscripts. This happens because of a large number of draft deferments, poor health and low educational level of many young men, and growing delinquency among young men," Talanov said.

"We will continue to raise problematic issues at meetings with governing, healthcare, educational and police bodies. In particular, this approach has enabled us to block the way to the army for drug addicts thanks for allocation of funds from local budgets for procurement of express drug tests," the colonel said.
