KYIV. Dec 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A total of 1,355 Ukrainian servicemen will celebrate the New Year and Christmas within UN, OSCE and KFOR missions in six foreign countries, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported on Monday.
"In particular, the 4th separate repair and restoration battalion and 20th separate helicopter unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are accomplishing missions in Africa. During the holidays, they will patrol villages within repair brigades of other peacekeeping contingents, serve at strongpoints, on guard and within interior patrols," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.
According to him, Ukrainian pilots will take off on Tuesday to patrol the border between Guinea and Liberia following an order from the command of the UN mission in Sierra Leone.
Ukrainian peacekeeping contingents and military observers are accomplishing missions in Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Yugoslavia, The Congo, Ethiopia and Georgia.
