Forecasts of Iraqi war controlled by Pentagon - Russian expert

MOSCOW. Jan 8 (Interfax-AVN) - All current forecasts of developments around Iraq are, in fact, controlled, because they are based on Army, Air Force and Navy relocation data leaks limited and thoroughly checked by Pentagon analysts, Colonel Vadim Markushin, a Russian military analyst, said on Wednesday.

"These information workpieces presented as true operational data are the basis of current media publications on "stages" of bombing and invasion, order of involving "coalition" forces and assets in the operation, and possibility of using weapons of mass destruction by the parties," Markushin told Interfax-Military News Agency.

According to him, the pure military aspect of preparations for the invasion is no different from previous maneuvers of that kind even though the movement of troops and their concentration in the Gulf area have a much larger scale.

"Nobody knows for sure what will happen, and the crafty logic of any war is to put in disguise both the enemy and outside analysts," the expert said.

Markushin claimed that even Washington cannot say for sure whether there will be bloodshed.

"On the one hand, the war machine aimed at invading Iraq and bringing down the current regime has acquired such a pace that the breakthrough of war seems the most possible result. On the other hand, I get an impression that the U.S. president is not yet ready to give a go-ahead, for he is making mutually exclusive statements from time to time," the analyst said.

While UN experts are looking for traces of weapons of mass destruction on the Iraqi territory, Washington is weighing arguments that have nothing to do with a true threat coming from Iraq, he claimed.

"The arguments are directly related to America's domestic development factors such as strengthening of the energy carriers base, renovation of aging weapons arsenals, and strengthening of positions of the ruling party through launching a new star- spangled wave," Markushin said.

"As to the 'three main things' necessary for a war (money, money, and once again money), the Americans have thought it over as well. They will print it and circulate it all over the world, distributing the financial burden of the military campaign among those who use the dollar as a second national currency," the analyst added.
