TBILISI. Jan 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Mother of Georgian peacekeeper Vice Colonel Zurab Durglishvili, who was kidnapped in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone in August by strangers, went on a timeless hunger strike.
The woman told reporters near the local administration building in the Gori locality on Wednesday that she demands from the authorities to step up search for her son and stressed that President Eduard Shevardnadze took the case under his personal control soon after the kidnapping took place.
Residents of Georgian villages in the conflict zone support the demand and are ready to start protect rallies if reliable information about the officer does not surface within a week.
Commander of the Georgian battalion within the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces Mikhail Kebadze told Interfax-Military News Agency that there was no information on the officer, who was an aide on public relations, since his kidnapping.
The Mixed Peacekeeping Forces featuring Russian, Georgian and Ossetian battalions were deployed to the conflict zone in 1992. At present they number some 1,000 servicemen.
