Georgian ministry to stop provision of transport, communication services to Russian military bases

TBILISI. Jan 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian Ministry of Transport and Communications will stop provising transport and communication services to Russian military bases stationed the country due to the resumption of the train service between Russia's Sochi and Abkhaz capital Sukhumi in late December 2002, Minister of Transport and Communications Merab Adeishvili told reporters on Friday.

No response was given to the protest submitted to the Russian Railway Ministry. The Georgian authorities will have to make a radical decision on the matter, Adeishvili said.

According to him, the Georgian government is planning to hold a session and make a proper decision on the issue.

Train service between Sochi and Sukhumi was resumed on December 25 last year after a 10-year break caused by the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.

Georgia says that the restoration of train service with Abkhazia can happen only alongside with settlement of the conflict and return of Georgian refugees.
