MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A meeting between officials of the Russian Gosstandart, a state body in charge of standardization, and a NATO delegation is held in Moscow on Monday.
The Gosstandart team is headed by its chairman Boris Aleshin, and the NATO party is headed by Rear Admiral Guillermo Leira, Deputy Assistant Secretary General Defense Support.
The objective of the meeting is to officially fix Russia's participation in the international goods cataloging system, which is a concern for Gosstandart, the Russian Defense Ministry, and the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trading company.
The cataloging system will save state money for procurement and operation of military hardware, as well as raise its rival capabilities on the world market, Aleshin said at the meeting.
"For Russia to catalog exported military hardware is to raise exportability, create jobs in the defense industry, as well as implement after-sale service and no-paper documentation experience. In addition, it implies her more active participation in the global division of labor," Aleshin said.
The government appointed Gosstandart representative of the Russian Federation in all international and regional cataloging institutions.
The decision on Russia's participation in the NATO cataloging system was taken May 28-31, 2001 in Warsaw at the 79th session of the Group of National Directors on Codification, attended by a Russian delegation.
