MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - An agreement on interaction with the NATO cataloging system was signed by the Russian Gosstandart, a state body in charge of standardization, and NATO in Moscow on Monday.
Russia was represented by Gosstandart chief Boris Aleshin, and NATO by Rear Admiral Guillermo Leira, Deputy Assistant Secretary General Defense Support.
The Russian party thinks the agreement will help Russia to implement international experience in operating a national cataloging system of Russian-made products for federal state services. It should also help to meet the requirements of international standards where logistical support of exported Russian-made hardware is concerned.
"The NATO cataloging system has two options of participation. Today's agreement is about Russia's participation at N1 level without access to data on Russia-cataloged products from the NATO system. The access to the data will be granted to consumers in accordance with the contracts," Aleshin added.
He also said that the agreement is not an international treaty of the Russian Federation, "but it lays a solid foundation and creates favorable conditions for long-term and mutually profitable science and technical cooperation between Russia's Gosstandart and the NATO Group of National Directors on Codification, regarding cataloging."
