MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian border guards prevented 90 attempts at illegal relocation of people across the Tajik-Afghan border last year, the press center of the Federal Border Guard Service reported on Monday.
The border guards also detained 65 violators and seized over 4t of drugs, over 70 pieces of arms and 8,500 pieces of ammo, a press center official told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"The Russian border force in Tajikistan is considered to be the best in the Federal Border Guard Service in 2002 as far as its service and combat activities are concerned," the press center said.
The force is considered to be the best among regional departments and groupings for the second year in a row. The force is under command of Lieutenant General Alexander Markin.
According to the official, the Armavir detachment of the border force in Armenia, the Vyborg separate checkpoint of the Northwestern regional border guard department, the Nakhodka guard- ship brigade of the Pacific regional border guard department were among the best in the Federal Border Guard Service in 2002.
In general, 120 separate checkpoints and units of the service were considered exemplary in 2002 along with some 600 crews and squads and over 10,000 servicemen.
