TBILISI/SUKHUMI. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - A joint patrol of UN military observers and the Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone that studied the situation in the Kodori gorge for two days detected no strangers or instances of mounting arms and ammo stockpiles in the gorge's upper part controlled by Georgia.
"No special or reinforced military actions were registered in the lower part of the Kodori gorge controlled by Abkhazia," a source in the UN observers mission in Georgia told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday.
He said that this is the second patrolling of the gorge this year.
At the same time Abkhaz Deputy Defense Minister Garri Kupalba told Interfax-AVN that "the bridgehead that is being established by the Georgian party in the Kodori gorge where over 900 border guards and National Guard reservists are situated" is a confirmation of Georgia's plans to regain control over Abkhazia by force.
