Russian airborne chief introduces his deputy for combat training

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak introduced his new deputy for airborne training Major General Vyacheslav Borisov to the Airborne Staff on Monday.

The post was introduced in mid-2002 by a presidential decree.

"General Borisov has vast experience in holding command posts. He served in the Airborne Troops for over 23 years, participated in the Afghan war as commander of a paratrooper battalion, commanded a separate airborne brigade in the Trans- Baikal military district for four years, served in the Land Forces for 7.5 years, commanded the 2nd guard Taman motorized rifle division and led the 12th Russian military base in the Trans-Caucasus for four years," Shpak said when introducing Borisov.

The airborne commander expressed his confidence that Borisov will quickly master new duties in the Airborne Staff that are related with training of personnel in units and formations of the Airborne Troops as well as with preparing combat hardware for landing operations.

On Tuesday, Borisov left for his first working visit to the city of Tula where he is to supervise tests in personnel and combat hardware readiness for landing in units of the 106th airborne division.

Borisov was born in the town of Ruza in the Moscow region on January 12, 1955. He graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne College in 1976, Frunze Military Academy in 1990 and General Staff Academy in 1998. After graduation from the General Staff Academy, Borisov was appointed commander of the 12th military base. He is married and has two sons. He is awarded four orders and medals as well as a 9mm Makarov pistol.
