MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's military leadership has obtained information about the possible dates and scenarios for the U.S.-led strike against Iraq, a General Staff source told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"According to our information, the operation is scheduled for late February. A decision to carry this out was finalized, but it has not been announced," he said.
"The military operation will be launched when up to 150,000 anti-Iraq coalition troops are in the Persian Gulf," he said.
It will be "a combined operation and the strikes will be delivered from air, land and sea. It will be a swift war and won't last for more than a month," he said.
Its objective is not only to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, but also to establish the U.S. control over Iraq's oil reserves, he said.
"Hussein is a screen, a small change, a motive. The real objective of the military action is to control Iraqi oil," he said.
