Italian military inspection team starts working in Leningrad military district

ST.PETERSBURG. Jan 22 (Interfax-AVN) - An Italian military inspection team started working in the 56th training center of the Leningrad military district on Wednesday.

"A foreign military inspection team of nine people, including officials from other countries, arrived in Russia in accordance with a notification on inspection as prescribed by Section Seven (inspection of declared location) of the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) treaty," a source in the district's department on support of treaties' implementation told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The inspectors started their work in a tank battalion of the center.

"It s the 20th foreign military inspection team visiting the district this inspection year that ends on March 15. The 56th training center has been visited by three more inspection teams since March 15, 2002," the source said.

"No claims have been made to the Russian party which evidences that Russia strictly abides by obligations under the treaty. The work of foreign inspection teams and officers of the Leningrad military district within Russian inspection groups abroad is taking place in business-like and benevolent environment," the source added.
