ATHENS. Jan 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has once again reiterated his position regarding a possible military operation against Iraq.
"Russia believes that today, there is no reason to use military force against Iraq," Ivanov told the press in Athens on Thursday.
"There are political and diplomatic means for resolving the Iraq problem," he stressed.
A political and diplomatic settlement of the Iraqi crisis would contribute to solving the problem of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and is in the interests of regional and international stability.
"The international community's efforts should now be focused on helping the international inspectors accomplish their mission. That is what we will be working on, especially in collaboration with the European Union," Ivanov said.
The Russian foreign minister has arrived in Greece, the current chairman of the EU, on a visit.
