MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax-AVN) - More than 5,500 families of Russian Air Force servicemen got their own apartments at the expense of the state in 2002, Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov said on Monday.
"We commissioned 2,424 apartments and realized 3,175 state housing certificates in 2002. Thus, over 5,500 families of Air Force servicemen obtained housing at the expense of the state," Mikhailov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
According to him, over 70 percent of funds that the Air Force receives for capital construction are spent on construction of housing for servicemen.
"Our capital construction plans have a distinct social aspect. We mostly build housing and handle its current and capital repairs. Over 70 percent of funds that the Air Force receives for capital construction are spent on housing construction," Mikhailov said.
The Air Force will continue to spend most of its capital construction funds on building residential blocks in 2003. The amount of housing to be provided to servicemen is not expected to fall below last year's level, the commander-in-chief added.
