Over 300 Moslem pilgrims cross Russian state border on Sunday

STAVROPOL. Jan 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 300 Moslems on hajj crossed the Russian state border through checkpoints of the North Caucasus regional border guard department in the past 24 hours.

"A total of some 1,000 pilgrims have crossed the border in the department's area of responsibility in the past few days. Organized processing of documents for pilgrims and their vehicles is underway," the department's press service reported on Monday.

Servicemen of the Astrakhan border guard detachment detained a GAZ-52 car near the Chernobylny checkpoint on the Russian- Kazakh border. The vehicle was trying to enter Russia bypassing the checkpoint. Investigators found out that a Kazakh citizen was driving the car. He was taken to the detachment for further investigation.

Another patrol of the detachment detained two Kyrgyz citizens near the Segenda horse-breeding farm. The men attempted to import Chinese goods in Russia illegally using a car. The goods are being evaluated.

"As before, the main attention was paid to the Chechen and adjacent sections of the Russian-Georgian state border. Active reconnaissance and combat operations and setting of ambushes, including with the help of technical border protection assets and sniffer dogs, are underway," the press service said.
