TBILISI. Jan 27 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. instructors will start training the second Georgian battalion in the framework of the Pentagon's USD64m-worth Train and Equip program on Saturday, a source in the Georgian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"U.S. instructors will train 550 professional servicemen for the Sachkheri mountain rifle battalion of the National Guard for three months," the source said.
A total of four battalions are to have been trained by the end of 2003 in the framework of the program.
The Georgian Defense Ministry will start accepting applications from people willing to serve in the third battalion in April. The battalion is to be trained at facilities of the 11th brigade.
