SUKHUMI. Jan 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia fulfilled its obligations to close the military base in Gudauta in accordance with decisions of the Istanbul summit of 1999, Abkhaz First Deputy Foreign Minister Daur Arshba told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
He said that Abkhazia is ready to welcome OSCE officials who are to check the fulfillment of the obligations.
"So far the OSCE has not contacted Abkhazia on the issue," Arshba noted.
Units of the CIS Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone are using part of the former base's infrastructure.
The Georgian leadership insists on the monitoring of the base by OSCE observers. The Russian party has notified Georgia several times about the base's disbandment.
