Two rebels involved in terrorist acts killed in Grozny

GROZNY. Feb 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Two rebels involved in acts of terrorism have been destroyed in a special operation in Grozny.

The regional anti-terrorist headquarters told Interfax- Military News Agency on Monday that a rebel by the name of Ramzan Saipuyev had been arrested in the Nadterechnaya district on Sunday. He confessed that he had attacked a car carrying servicemen from the military commissioner's office of the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny in October 2002, killing three servicemen.

He said he had acted under orders of certain persons and named an address in Grozny where he was to receive a contract for another act of terrorism.

A special operation followed in Grozny's Zavodskoy district, in which rebels discovered in an apartment put up armed resistance and were killed. Two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 362 5.45-mm cartridges, 540 7.62mm cartridges, 25 underbarrel grenade launcher rounds, and a radio-controlled home-made explosive device were seized from the apartment.

A rebel identified as Khakimov was detained in the village of Germenchuk in the Shali district, the headquarters said. Khakimov took part in the attack on Tavsultanov, chief of the security department in the Nurenergo JSO.

The detainee revealed the location of his arms cache that contained 20 projectiles for the Grad launcher and 10 anti-tank guided missiles.
