Joint Board of Russian and Belarussian Emergencies Ministries to be held in Moscow

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The second session of the Joint Board of Russian and Belarussian Emergencies Ministries is to be held in Moscow on February 26.

"The joint board to be presided over by Emergencies Ministers Sergei Shoigu (of Russia - Interfax-AVN) and Valeri Astapov (of Belarus - Interfax-AVN) should consider a draft of the Legislative Foundations of the Union State (of Russia and Belarus - Interfax-AVN) in Preventing and Managing Natural and Human-Related Disasters," the Emergencies Ministry press service told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.

In addition, the meeting should consider the Program of the Development of a Unified System of the Monitoring and Forecast of Emergencies in the Territory of the Union State for up to 2003- 2005.

The first session of the board was held in Minsk March 6, 2002 within the framework of the program for joint action of the Russian and Belarussian Emergencies Ministries in protecting the population and the land from natural and industrial disasters.

Along with general issues, the Minsk session of the board considered the draft of the Foundation of Union Policy in Preventing and Neutralizing the Consequences of Natural and Human- Related Disasters.

The delegates also shared information on the developments and application of modern fire extinguishing technologies and approved the schedule of the joint board for up to 2005.
