PS-90A engine distinguished as one of "100 Russia's best goods"

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The PS-90A turbojet engine designed for airliners and military cargo aircraft has been awarded at the contest of Russia's 100 best goods of 2002, Yuri Reshetnikov, CEO of the Permskiye Motornye Zavody company, told a news conference in Moscow on Monday.

"The PS-90A has been named among 'Russia's 100 best goods' in 2002," Reshetnikov said.

He recalled that PS-90A was the only Russian fourth- generation engine for the IL-96-300 and TU-204 airliners, as well as IL-76MF Candid and prospective military cargo aircraft.

"This engine is operated on the President's IL-96-300, which is clear evidence for its reliability," he emphasized.

The operation of the PS-90A engines with a thrust of 16 tonnes began in 1993 with long-distance IL-96-300 airliners. In 1997, the engine reached the service life limit of 5,000 hours and the turnaround time of 2,500 hours. About 250 engines of the type have been produced to date.

Reshetnikov said that now the engine is operated with the IL- 96-300 TU-204, IL-76 and -76MF Candid aircraft.

The PS-90A has a serial noise reduction system enabling it to meet the ICAO international noise requirements. There is another new high-efficiency noise reduction system in store. It is designed for compliance with future ICAO restrictions. "This means that it will be possible to operate the engine even after 2006 when new flight regulations become effective," Reshetnikov said.
