Over 7,000 Russians ready to fight for Iraq - ambassador

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 7,000 Russians are ready to fly to Iraq to take part in the possible war against the United States, the Iraqi ambassador to Moscow Abbas Halaf has said.

"The number of volunteers has exceeded 7,000 and the figure grows day after day," he told a Friday news conference at the Interfax central office.

He added that very many volunteers are sending letters from the North Caucasus. "Several thousand people in Dagestan alone are ready to leave for Iraq," he said.

Halaf said the embassy is not planning to issue visas to everyone wishing to travel to Iraq so far.

"We don't intend to issue visas to everyone. We don't need so many people. However, if we receive corresponding orders from Baghdad, we will start issuing visas," he said.
