Air defense about to complete live firing in Leningrad Military District

ST.PETERSBURG. March 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The army air defense units headquartered in the Leningrad Military District are about to complete live firing in the army air defense training area of the district on Friday.

"Today live firing on aerial targets will include the Tunguska (Grison), Igla (Grouse), and Strela-10 (Gopher) air defense systems," Colonel Yuri Klyonov, chief of the district's press service, told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.

He said that the emphasis of the field training cycle was made on tactical, technical, special, and other officers' leadership skills. The training missions were being accomplished in the near-combat environment in close liaison between separate crews.

According to the press service, this training cycle has been a preparation for tactical exercise with live firing at state testing grounds.

"Last year's training of the district's air defense units at state testing grounds showed that this approach was quite right. That was proven by high live firing performance, better special tactics skills, and readiness for contingency missions," Klyonov said.
