Importers of Russia's Kornet antitank missile system have not applied for re-export permission

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The importers of the Russian Kornet-E antitank missile system have never officially applied to the Military-Technical Cooperation Committee for a re- export permission, the press service of the committee said on Thursday.

The statement has been made in response to media reports that some Kornet-E systems had allegedly been supplied to Iraq, the press service said.

"The Military-Technical Cooperation Committee strictly monitors the observance of the federal law "Concerning the Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation with Foreign States" of June 19, 1998, and of the presidential decree of December 1, 2000 No 1953 'Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation with Foreign States', which make up the legal basis of the business. Every contract on the export of Russian-made weapons includes an importer's obligation of direct- purpose use of the makes procured, and on the ban on their re- export or transfer to a third country without consent of the Russian Federation," the press service also stated.

The statement emphasizes that importers of the Kornet-E have never officially applied to the Russian Military-Technical Cooperation Committee for a re-export permission.
