MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Tsakayev has handed in his resignation, said Chechen administration chief Akhmad Kadyrov.
"He has written the letter (of resignation - Interfax) and will not appear in the capacity of a minister in Chechnya anymore," Kadyrov told a Friday news conference at the Interfax main office.
He said Tsakayev's first deputy is now acting Interior Minister.
"I have already suggested several candidates, and discussed the matter with Boris Gryzlov (Russia's interior minister - Interfax)," Kadyrov said.
Commenting on Tsakayev's resignation, Kadyrov said he had expressed dissatisfaction with the operation of the Chechen police many times.
He said he was satisfied with the work of incumbent Chechen prime minister Anatoly Popov.
"Popov suits me quite well. He is capable, and more importantly, hard-working. In any case he is not aggressive and is not trying to crush anyone," Kadyrov said.
