Border guard chief inspecting North Caucasus-deployed units

STAVROPOL. April 7 (Interfax-AVN) - A large high command inspection of the Federal Border Guard Service has begun at the state border section within the AoR of the North Caucasus Regional Directorate.

"This is the first North Caucasus mission of Colonel General Vladimir Pronichev, appointed acting director general of the Federal Border Guard Service in late March," the press service of the directorate told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

The mission is aimed at studying the situation in the region and examining the service at the state border section being a high priority concern for the state leadership and for the central command of the Federal Border Guard Service.

The acting director is being accompanied by Lieutenant General Valeri Putov, acting chief of the North Caucasus Regional Directorate.

Pronichev was appointed acting director of the Federal Border Guard Service by a presidential decree. Another decree determines that the Federal Border Guard Service will operate as it currently does until June 1, 2003, after which it will be dismissed, and its responsibilities will be taken over by the Federal Security Service.
