GROZNY. April 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A guerilla who planned to stage a terrorist act wad destroyed in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya.
"The guerilla was killed on the road between the Martan-Chu and Komsomolskoye villages. He tried to plant a makeshift explosive device on the sidewalk. During the detention the rebel put up resistance and opened fire at servicemen but was killed by return fire," a spokesman for the regional operational headquarters in charge of the Chechnya campaign told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.
The device was made on the basis of two 82-mm mortar shells and a Kalashnikov assault rifle. An investigation team is identifying the corpse.
Meanwhile, two guerilla bases were detected by a federal unit in a forest located south of the Alkhazurovo village in the Urus-Martan district. "A powerful artillery strike was inflicted on the abases to destroy guerilla shelters. When servicemen searched the bases, they found out that each of them was intended for 10-15 people. Dug-outs and caches of the bases contained extended storage foodstuffs such as rice, flour, and vegetable oil. Moreover, small-arms ammo and an F-1 grenade were found. The corpse of a man with Arab appearance was found 30m from a dug- out. The body had numerous fragmentation wounds. No documents were found on him," the spokesman said.
The search for guerillas who used the bases is underway.
