GROZNY. April 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Law-enforcement agencies will have to seize arms and ammo from guerilla caches in Chechnya for a long time, a source in Chechen law-enforcement agencies told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"Law-enforcers and servicemen find and seize arms, dozens of mines and shells, hundreds and thousands of cartridges from extremist caches every day. Specialists consider that the process might take many years," the source said.
"A series of corresponding reports has been received in the past 24 hours alone," the source noted.
According to him, law-enforcers checking the testimony of a detained guerilla found a cache with 19 82-mm mortar shells, nine 120-mm mortar shells and 11 RPG-18 grenade launchers near the Tamysh mountain in the Urus-Martan district.
When searching the house of an earlier detained rebel in the town of Argun, an investigation team found a cache with 900 various cartridges and three VOG-17 grenade launcher rounds. Checking the testimony of the detainee, they found another cache with an AK-74 assault rifle, a PM pistol and cartridges for it near the local cemetery.
During search operations in the Meskety village in the Vedeno district, law-enforcers seized two 152-mm artillery shells and five antipersonnel mines from a cache. Sappers found an 82-mm mortar shell and several hand grenades in a cache in the Datykh village.
Two caches have been found in Grozny in the past 24 hours. Nine hand grenades, a large number of fuses for makeshift explosive devices, a grenade launcher round, and assault rifle cartridges were found in an abandoned house in the Staropromyslovsky district of the city. Policemen seized over 400 various cartridges from a cache on Kuibyshev Street.
"At the same time, Tuesday was not the hottest day in this sense," the source added.
