MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax-AVN) - In response to a possible UN resolution concerning the North Korean nuclear program, Pyongyang might declare its possession of nuclear weapons, a high- ranking military-political source told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
He was commenting on the Wednesday UN Security Council hearings on the North Korea nuclear problem.
"It cannot be ruled out that shortly after the UN Security Council passes a quite predictable resolution concerning North Korea's nuclear programs, Pyongyang might make a very serious and very unpredictable statement," the source said.
In particular, North Korea "might declare the presence of nuclear weapons in the country and the resumption of tests of medium-range missiles, launching them above Japanese territory," he said.
"Of course, this does not mean that a nuclear war will begin in the near future," he said.
"Russia has always been against putting the problem of North Korea up for the UN Security Council's consideration," the source noted. "We are not defending Kim Chong-il, but we perfectly understand his course of action," the expert said.
