Armament demonstration center to be established in Moscow region

KRASNOARMEISK, Moscow Region. April 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The federal authorities will soon make a decision establishing a national center of armament, hardware and technologies demonstration in the town of Krasnoarmejsk in the Moscow region, Moscow Region Governor Boris Gromov told reporters on Thursday.

"All documents pertaining to clearance of the center have been submitted to the Russian presidential administration and we are waiting for corresponding orders to be signed in the near future," Gromov said.

He noted that Krasnoarmeisk has everything required for the functioning of the center where it is planned to demonstrate military hardware and armament for the Land Forces, including fire support helicopters.

"A proving range for testing artillery systems 6km wide and some 25km long will form the core of the center. The total area of the center will amount to 148 square kilometers," Gromov stressed.

He said that the center will start operating in 2004 if the corresponding decree is signed. "It is too early to talk about details. At present we are coordinating plans," Gromov added.
