U.S. might start combat operations against Syria - Russian lawmaker

MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States might start combat actions against Syria, Major General Nikolai Bezborodov, deputy chairman of the defense committee in the State Duma lower house of Russian parliament, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"I am very serious about American statements concerning Syria. And I do not rule out that the United States might start combat operations against that country. Maybe not now, maybe after a small break but it can. And not only against Syria," Bezborodov said.

There are several main factors in this sphere, he noted.

"First, Americans are now in the state of victorious euphoria and are sure they can solve any problem. Second, a military group that has gained combat experience in similar conditions is already deployed in the region. The system of control over the group is already harmonized as well," Bezborodov stressed.

Moreover, the quick operation in Iraq impressed not only Americans, but the whole world.

"The global community failed to stop aggressive actions of the United States and its allies. The mechanism for it is not developed now either. It means that nobody is capable of stopping the U.S. again," Bezborodov added.
