Russian Duma to consider amendments to law on military studies in high school

MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The defense committee in the State Duma lower house of parliament will propose an amendment to the law "Concerning Education" to improve studies of basics of military training in high school, the committee's deputy chairman Nikolai Bezborodov said on Tuesday.

"Several provisions of the laws "Concerning Education" and "Concerning Liability to Bear Arms and Military Service" contradict each other. The amendments will put both laws in the same legal field," Bezborodov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Under the law "Concerning Education", maintenance of security of life activity is a facultative subject in high school. At the same time, the law "Concerning Liability to Bear Arms and Military Service" says military service basics, which is a component of the maintenance of security of life activity course, must be an obligatory subject. This subject must be studied in the 10th and 11th years, and the studies must end with a training session at facilities of nearby military units, their officers working as instructors.
