ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has sent a second request asking Turkey to detain and extradite Chechen separatist leader Movladi Udugov, Deputy Prosecutor General Sergei Fridinsky told Interfax on Wednesday.
The Turkish Justice Ministry received the previous request last summer, but failed to respond to it, Fridinsky noted.
"W reminded the Turkish authorities about our international investigative request to detain and extradite Udugov. We are waiting for a response," he said.
Udugov faced charges of armed mutiny in absentia in line with Article 279 of the Russian Criminal Code, he said. Moreover, he was accused of organizing and participating in the Chechen militant assault on Dagestan in September 1999.
Udugov was put on the international wanted list in April 2000. In addition to Udugov, the Interpol announced searches for 75 participants of terrorist attacks in Moscow and the North Caucasus, including Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov.
