GROZNY. April 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Four officers of the Federal Security Service department for Chechnya were wounded in Grozny when their car hit a landmine in the Zavodskoy district.
"An unidentified explosive device exploded on Thursday in the Zavodskoy district 300 meters from checkpoint No. 18 as a UAZ off-road vehicle with security officers in it drove past," Chechen Deputy Prime Minister Movsur Khamidov told Interfax on Friday.
Khamidov said four officers received shrapnel wounds and were taken to hospital.
"A search has been launched in Grozny for persons who may have been involved in organizing the blast. An immediate search for the bombers produced no results," he said.
Another attack on law enforcement officers occurred in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya.
The Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax on Friday that local policemen were examining a house in the village of Gekhi- Chu when a rebel hiding in the house threw a grenade at them, jumped out of the window and tried to escape. The policemen were forced to open fire. The rebel was wounded and later died in the district hospital.
According to the Interior Ministry, on Thursday officers from the police, the Federal Security Service and the military commandant's office conducted a special operation to stop illegal oil refining. They discovered and destroyed 10 mini refineries and confiscated 50 tonnes of oil.
