Russian Railway Troops lacking mentor officers

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax-AVN) - About 100 mentor officers will be sent to units of the Russian railway troops to strengthen discipline this year, Lieutenant General Vyacheslav Bury, deputy commander of the railway troops, said on Friday.

"A kind of vacuum in personnel upbringing has emerged in several units of the railway troops on the company-battalion level due to a huge lack of deputy company commanders and deputy platoon commanders for political work. I believe that this is one of the reasons for a draft decline in military discipline in some units of our troops. We are planning to send some 100 graduates of Defense Ministry higher educational establishments and our 9th center of officer courses to in order to fill that vacuum on the lowest level this year," Bury told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The Railway Troops Command and Military Council are taking all possible measures to strengthen the military discipline, law and order in units of the troops.

"This issue dominated the agenda of the two-day training session of deputy brigade commanders and deputy corps commanders for political work that are ending today. Measures to strengthen discipline, law and order in units will also be considered at today's session of the Railway Troops Council to be chaired by Colonel General Georgy Kogatko. The session will be attended by Chief Military Prosecutor Lieutenant General Alexander Savenkov," Bury stressed.
