Chiefs of Georgian, Russian border pickets postpone meeting to April 30

TBILISI. April 25 (Interfax-AVN) - The chiefs of border pickets protecting the Chechen section of the Russian-Georgian border have postponed their meeting that was to take place in the Shatili village on Friday, Georgian Border Guard Department Chief- of-Staff Kornely Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The meeting will take place in the Omalo village on April 30. The reason for the postponement is bad weather.

Salia will leave for Vladikavkaz on April 29 to meet with colleagues from the North Caucasus regional border guard department.

"Thus, all previous agreements on joint border protection measures enter a practical stage with the beginning of the snow melting period," Salia noted.

He noted that reliable permanent communication is being established between chiefs of border pickets.

Salia pointed to the efficiency of "the recent consultations in Moscow between heads of the Federal Border Guard Service and Georgian State Border Guard Department, where an accord was reached on cooperation in 2003."
