KHANKALA. April 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen guerillas use new tactics of combating Russian helicopter gunships, a source in the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
"Guerillas stretch ropes across gorges on possible routes of helicopters. After colliding with those ropes, the helicopter might lose stability and crash," the source said.
"Moreover, rebels try to track helicopters down from the ground. They fired assault rifles at helicopters five times last week alone," the source noted.
Guerillas have not tracked down any helicopters in Chechnya this year. "Among other reasons, it can be explained by the fact that pilots strictly abide by instructions," the source added.
