Russian Navy's warship units to meet in Arabian Sea

MOSCOW. April 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Warship units of Russia's Black Sea Fleet and Pacific Fleet are to meet in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday.

"Having completed successfully the cruise from Sevastopol and Vladivostok, warship units of the Black Sea Fleet and Pacific Fleet will meet near the Island of Sokotra in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday," Russian Navy Chief-of-Staff Admiral Viktor Kravchenko told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The Black Sea Fleet unit is already on the scene and engaged in planned examination of ship units and equipment," the admiral said.

"An exercise with Indian Navy ships will take place here in the Arabian Sea later," Kravchenko noted.

He said that the exercise will involve ships of the Indian Navy's Western Fleet. Later Russian ships will sail to the Bay of Bengal where the training is to continue.

Russia is represented at the exercise by ships of the Black Sea and Pacific Fleets. The former fleet sent its flagship Moskva, Pytlivy and Smetlivy guard ships and Tsezar Kunikov large landing craft to the Indian Ocean, and the latter fleet its Marshal Shaposhnikov and Admiral Panteleyev large anti-submarine ships.

The two vessel units left Vladivostok and Sevastopol from April 6 to 10 together with auxiliary vessels.
