KHANKALA. April 30 (Interfax-South) - There will be no restrictions in Chechnya on traffic or public movements during the holidays, military commandant of the republic Lieutenant General Yevgeny Abrashin told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Federal troops are in full control of the situation in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation and there is absolutely no need to tighten security in connection with the upcoming holidays," he said.
"All towns remain open for entry and departure," he said. "Officers at roadblocks will not create any obstacles to drivers or pedestrians," he added.
Commenting on a report from the press service of the federal force that rebel groups may attempt acts of terrorism in Grozny and other parts of Chechnya, Abrashin said that "irrespective of any rebel plans, federal troops are in permanent combat readiness and are capable of taking extensive measures to destroy rebels at any time, if they try to spoil the holiday for the residents of Grozny."
The general said that officers from offices of the military commandant will help the local police patrol city streets."
The movements of army convoys will be restricted during the holidays to give servicemen a rest on May 1. "The absence of armored vehicles on roads will allow local residents to spend less time on traveling to their friends and relatives," Abrashin said.
On the whole he described the situation in Chechnya ahead of the holidays as "fully controllable and having no preconditions for complication."
