Entry of Chinese nationals to Russia via Blagoveshchensk river port restricted - Federal Border Guard Service

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Far Eastern Regional Directorate of the Federal Border Guard Service has restricted the entry of Chinese citizens to Russia via the Blagoveshchensk Passenger River Port.

"This decision was inspired by the medical service due to frequent cases of various respiratory syndromes among Chinese citizens coming to Russia," the press service of the Federal Border Guard Service told Interfax-Military News Agency Tuesday.

No restrictions have been put on the exit of Chinese citizens from Russia and on the trans-border movements of Russians.

The border guard service emphasized that the restriction applies only to the Blagoveshchensk Passenger River Port.

"Other checkpoints of the Far Eastern Regional Directorate work as usually. However, their personnel takes medical precautions against the proliferation of the SARS virus," the press service said.

All border guards involved in contacts with transport and passengers coming from Asia and from the Pacific are specially trained for revealing SARS symptoms and taking prevention measures. In their work they protect themselves with surgical gloves and masks.
